Why and when do the Consumers tend to behave irrationally to the Products and Services? - Clorida

People at most of the time tend to buy things that they really do not need it. Be it expensive fashion accessory or the essential product, people due to various reasons that favor them, would attempt to buy them without considering its actual use. At this situation they fail to make proper decision than getting excited to shop.

There is nothing problematic in people enjoying their shopping experience; however, this becomes critical when they take decision that affects the businesses.

With ample options available, making the right choice becomes difficult and physically exhausting when they are nearby. Therefore, anyone forced to take proper decision would get annoyed and lazy.

This is obvious with the same type of products from different brands kept nearer. For instance, candies of same size and flavor, but from various brands differentiating them with something unique.
In an other term, having plenty of choice will also make people difficult to come to a conclusion and take the wrong decision. Thus, they tend to become irrational.

Here are some reasons for why the consumers tend to behave irrational:

·         Marketing:
Marketing has a huge influence on the consumer behavior. Advertising through various approaches will make people remember and recognize the brands; however, this will also affect their preferences and decision making over their exact needs. This will also change the attitude of the consumer towards the product.
Effective advertisements will not only lead to rational arguments favoring the purchase of the product, but it will also emotionally influence them.

·         Copying other consumers:
Most of the consumers tend to copy others, for just a simple reason that they are uncertain about making proper decisions and best choice. This behavior of the consumer will make them irrational towards the brand or product. Copying others will not only influence people’s behavior, but it also affects what they buy, unconsciously, whether they need it or not, or the product meet their requirement or not.
·         Impulsiveness:
There is nothing to deny that the personality traits will influence consumer behavior and one such attribute is impulsiveness. Some are more impulsive than the others and this may lead the consumers end up with unplanned purchase, who is considered to be impulsive buyers. These buyers or consumers will react to external elements like promotional gifts, advertisements and many others. However, many people still try to justify their irrational purchase, which, although they knew it to be unnecessary.
·         Different State of Mind
Different state of mind will affect the decision-making ability of the consumer. People are distracted, they are under time pressure and also limited with options, which pushes to different state of mind and behave irrationally. For instance, the consumer may get confused when given the choice between chocolate, fruits and ice cream to choose one among, whereas when he is having the preferences to all, but not stable about what he actually want now. This state will also reduce his ability to control willpower and take a proper decision.
·         Changes in products
The changes made by the manufacturers to differentiate and attract more customers due to tough competition existing in the market may also make the consumer behave irrational. This is because most of the existing consumers who are bonded with the product using for many years, may wish to have and experience the same forever. Such changes will also influence the consumer’s behavior if to proceed buying the new version of the product or move to an other brand
